Healthcare | Edinburgh Science Festival 2021

Posted: 04 July 2021

Healthcare has understandibly been front and centre in the news over the past year – dive into the science behind the headlines with our health focused events.

Aftershocks brings together two international experts in post-conflict trauma who will explore the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our mental health, and how we as individuals and as a nation can best mitigate the effects of this extraordinary year. In Memoriam is a stunning artwork commemorating those who lost their lives in the global pandemic, and pays tribute to the NHS health and care workers who have been risking their lives during the crisis. You can see the installation at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.

Watch this year’s Edinburgh Medal address as Prof Heidi Larson is awarded the medal for her role in recognising the importance of popular and widespread misunderstandings of vaccines, and her work to engage with communities to advance health and social well-being.

In The Menopause Manifesto, author Dr Jen Gunter breaks down the patriarchal barriers surrounding menopause and exposes how society’s focus on what happens to women’s bodies has shaped and hindered the treatment and understanding of menopause for years. British Heart Foundation – Live and Ticking explores how air pollution affects your hear and circulatory system.
